Why would you screen for ADHD?

Why bother screening for ADHD? Isn't it just a kids disorder? How could it possibly help an adult to know?

These are questions I hear everyday, as an adult ADHDer, and as a psychologist. I would say it is vitally important though. If ADHD is present, it permeates throughout the persons life. It affects therapy processes, relationships and more. By learning to identify those who potentially have an ADHD neurotype, clients can be supported to access further assessments, diagnosis and supports.

Meet Annette, ADHDer and psychologist

As an ADHDer I have lived both as an undiagnosed ADHDer and diagnosed, and rest assured, its much better on this side of the fence. Had any of the professionals I had seen through my life recognised it, I believe life would have made much more sense.

But for many reasons, they didn't or couldn't and I am making up for lost time. My aim is to support as many psychologists as I can to recognise the signs in my neurokin and provide you with the knowledge to support them, either through knowing where they can get help, providing assessments or altering therapy to be more productive. This training is the first step in that mission, providing an overview of how and when to screen of ADHD across the lifespan.
